It’s also a club social event with refreshments and a BBQ with beer & wine courtesy of the Headmaster and his wife, John and Vicky Rooney.
There is also a fun cyclo cross race for adults to try out. It’s for parents, visitors and all club members who fancy having a go.

It’s pretty important for us to show our club wide support for the event. The Headmaster,  is currently driving a project to install a new 1k plus x 5 metre wide cycle racing and training circuit entirely in the school grounds. Because our Go-Ride section have been using the school for the last four years, British cycling are likely to provide 50% of the funding. It’s probably going ahead and might be complete in spring 2016. It will include changing rooms, floodlights and a sports barn.

Currently, Calder are ‘pencilled in’ to be the lead cycling club for the circuit. John Rooney, though, is conscious that Calder Clarion isn’t just the Go-Ride section and he’ll be looking keenly at the support we are able to muster for the event on 12th July.

Partners involved in the project need to be assured that the circuit will be used by more than just our go-ride youngsters,

A closed road circuit in Wakefield would be a huge boost to the school, to cycle training and racing for all Wakefield area cyclists and for Calder Clarion Cycling Club.
Please call in at the event and show your support for the project and our go-ride kids even after the Sunday ride if you’re doing one.
